How can you distinguish God’s voice from the enemy’s voice?
One struggle many Christians face today is getting the voice of God confused with the voice of the enemy.
3 Ways to Distinguish God’s Voice From The E
Do you ever have little thoughts jolt in your mind, and you wonder if it’s from God, your own brain, or something else?
Well, when those little thoughts creep into your mind, it can be easy to assume that “God is speaking to you.”
When in all actuality, it’s just the enemy attacking your mind. Or it’s just your own self-deprecating thoughts spiraling out of control.

1. God’s Voice Will Align With Scripture
Ask yourself, “Does this thought align with what the bible teaches?”
God’s voice will never go against scripture. For example, God’s voice would never tell you to lie to your spouse. God’s voice (the Holy Spirit), would not tell you to steal money, ect.
He will never tell you something or ask you to do something that goes against His Word.
“Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.”
2. God’s Voice is Good
God’s voice is not one of confusion or fear. Only GOOD comes from Him and through Him– not evil.
God’s voice is a voice of love.
Ask the question, “Does this thought come from fear or confusion, or does it come from a place of truth and life?”
If it is a confusing, scary, or fearful thought, it is not coming from the Lord.
Be Mindful of Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual Warfare is real and it is something that is not talked about very much. It’s important to put on the whole armor of God–every single morning when you wake up.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.“
Ephesians 6: 10-14
3. Pray To Hear God’s Voice Clearly
The Bible teaches “Ask and you shall receive.”
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you distinguish His voice from the enemy’s voice. He is a good Father who wants to give good things to his children.
Prayer for Hearing God’s Voice
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I humbly repent for sinning against you, and you alone. For my sins, I am truly sorry. Thank you for your forgiveness and mercy. Father, I ask that you would help me to distinguish your voice from the enemy’s voice. I long to hear from you, and not from the enemy. I need your guidance in my life. Thank you for what you are going to do in my life, and for what you have already done.

I am reminded of King Solomon when he could have had anything in the world, and yet he asked for wisdom. (He wrote most of the book of Proverbs!)
God gave him the wisdom he asked for!
Ask God to help you hear his voice today.
Yes! We can get lost sometimes trying to figure it out when all we have to do is continue to ask God for direction, and He will continue to speak into our lives where we can understand.

Great tips! Proverbs tells us multiple times about the wisdom in the counsel of others (11:14; 15:22; 24:6). When I just can’t seem to get clarity on my own, I’ve been so blessed by the insight, experience, and wisdom of those older and wiser and more mature than I am.

Great post! I just concluded a season in my life where I thought God was talking to me. When things didn’t happen to me the way I thought they would, I questioned whether it was Satan trying to draw me off track. It really was God talking. I just had to wait on His timing.

Yes, it is hard to distinguish God’s voice, especially if your desires does not align with his will.I’ve made this mistake many times myself.

Hi Leah! What a blessing this stop was for me today! I’m not a mom of littles anymore, but the questions I lay before God are just as frequent it seems! I pose this question to myself often – Is this from God or somewhere else? Your strategies are always ones I turn to, but such a good reminder and so well stated with Scripture to back it up. Several years ago my husband and I were leaving our house to go car shopping. I was hesitant when it came time to leave. I felt physically ill but I ignored it.
Long story short we didn’t buy a car that day. And not long after we decided to buy a house. If we had bought the car it would have impacted our debt-to-income ratio and we would have lost our new house.
God has continued to use my physical body to stop me in my tracks!
