The 7 Calmest Bible Verses To Help Crippling Anxiety

These 7 anxiety calming scriptures will bring peace to your mind and help take away stress. Pray these bible verses for anxiety out loud over your spirit.

I first remember having anxiety when I was an eleven year old girl. I’m a mom, and the thought of my daughter suffering from anxiety breaks my heart.

I can imagine Jesus heart breaks when his children suffer from crippling anxiety.

The Lord does not want you to have an anxious heart or a troubled mind!

Throughout my battle with anxiety, I have found there have been several scriptures that have helped.

7 Anxiety Calming Scriptures

1. When I am afraid  I will trust in you. -Psalm 56:3

There are so many forms of anxiety. Sometimes it’s physical, other times it is mental. Sometimes it being afraid of dying, other times it’s not knowing what you’re even anxious about.

The psalmist can relate to us. He was afraid, but he put his trust in God.

2. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and of a sound mind. – 2nd Timothy 1:7

This anxiety calming scripture has helped me know that this feeling of fear is NOT from the LORD.

It’s from the evil one. When you declare this truth, something powerful that happens.

2nd Timothy 1:7

3. He makes lays me down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. – Psalm 23:2-3

The 23rd Psalm is my absolute favorite chapter in the entire bible!

Take a moment and reflect on these words:

“He leads me beside still waters.”

Not rough seas, not waves that you can’t overcome, but still, gentle waters.

That is where the Father takes you.  That is where he longs for you to be.

Imagine yourself lying down in a green, peaceful pasture, covered in goodness.

Psalm 23: 2-3

4. Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. Psalm 23: 16

If GOODNESS and MERCY are following you all of your days, then there is no place for anxiety.

Declare, believe, and proclaim (yes, say it out loud) that goodness and mercy are following you, not anxiety and fear.

Psalm 23:6

5. Cast your cares on him for he cares for you. – 1st Peter 5:7

He cares for you.

He cares when his children are anxious. He cares when they are filled with worry and stress.

Resting in the truth that Jesus really, truly, cares about you can be enough to bring comfort when you need it.

But what about the first part of that verse?

It says to “cast your cares on him.”

How do you do that? Tell Jesus how you feel!

Talk with him. He is listening and He cares.

1st Peter 5:7

6. The Lord catches our tears and stores them in a jar. – Psalm 56:8

I love to imagine my Heavenly Father literally catching each and every one of my tears.

He stores them in a jar.

Why? Why would the creator of the universe “store” our tears?

Remember? He CARES for us. For you! For me!

Jesus does not forget us. He does not forget our pain and our suffering, He takes it upon him.

He holds our spirit with him.

Psalm 56:8

7.  Greater is He who is in me, HE who is in the world. – 1st John 4:4

The He who is in “me” is the Holy Spirit who lives in us. The He that is “ world” is the enemy.

God is greater than one, and we have the victory because we have the Holy Spirit alive in us.

1st John 4:4

Bible Verse to Fight Anxiety

Those of us battling anxiety know that it is not something we can simply turn off. We have to FIGHT. And how do we fight? We put on the armor of God. We use God’s word as our weapon!

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [a]wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [b]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

Ephesians 6:11-18

Verse 17 tells us that the sword of the Spirit, is the word of God, and it is our weapon!

Change Your Thoughts to Change Your Life

I know how debilitating living with anxiety is. I know what it’s like to be desperate for help, and not know where to turn. I took this — online course from a Licensed (and Christian!) Counselor. From taking this online course for anxiety, I learned how to target intrusive thought patterns, and replace them with bible verses instead.

  6. Hello! Just wanted to share a story. This past Wednesday, I took my national board exam to become a dental hygienist. It is an eight hour exam and it is HARD. When I was reading the very last question of that exam… a sweet song began to play in my mind. I sang it in my head, took a breath and hit submit. I have to wait for weeks to get the results of this exam. SO I look up how to deal with fear because i’m not sleeping or eating or even smiling much. I am consumed with this FEAR. Then I click in this post and read each verse. But then at the bottom, I see the words of the same song the Lord placed in my mind as I finished my exam … and I smiled! Out of all the posts on the internet … i clicked on this one. Thank you for this sweet post!

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”
